Our Story
Wick + Thread began as two separate creative ventures.
I originally started out sewing, while my son Will discovered candle making after playing around with candles at my niece’s 21st birthday. He was just 11 years old at the time, and that small moment sparked something — before long, he had started creating his own soy candles.
As orders grew, managing two separate businesses and two social media accounts became more than we could keep up with, so we decided to bring the two together.
The wick from his candles. The thread from my sewing.
And just like that, Wick + Thread was born.
Over time, our little business has grown and evolved alongside us. While the sewing days are now behind us, the name remains a special part of where we began and the story that brought our family business together.
These days, Will isn’t quite as involved as he once was — life as a busy teenager has a way of taking over. But he still comes out to the office and pours candles when he can, and sometimes he simply stops by for a chat and a check-in. No matter how the business continues to grow and change, he will always be part of the story behind Wick + Thread.
Today, from our home in Marlborough, New Zealand, we create sculptural soy and pure beeswax candles, handcrafted cement decor and thoughtfully curated gifts. Each piece is made in small batches, with a love for natural textures, soft earthy tones and simple, timeless design.
At the heart of Wick + Thread is still what started it all — a love for creating beautiful things by hand, and the joy of doing it together.
Thank you for supporting our small family business and allowing our handmade pieces to become part of your home.
